Departure for France.
Arrival in Frankfurt.Transfer by deluxe motorcoach to Strasbourg. Visit & degustation at Brasserie Kronenbourg. Check-into the Hotel de l’Europe for 2 nights. Rest of afternoon at leisure for sightseeing, shopping & to discover the Old Strasbourg. Before dinner, a boat trip on the canal to discover Strasbourg. Welcome dinner at La Maison des Tanneurs, built in 1572, formerly a tannery, it became a restaurant in 1949.
After breakfast, morning at leisure for sightseeing & shopping. Late morning departure for a visit of
a foie gras production at the Domaine de la Schleif in Soultz-les-Bains with lunch. The journey will continue through the famous “Route des Vins” that winds its way through 170 kilometers of storybook villages Afternoon, visits of Distillery Massenez in Ville & a tasting of Alsatian wine. Evening at leisure in Strasbourg.
After breakfast departure for Colmar, the capital of Alsatian wines. In route, visit of the Chateau of Haut-Koenigsbourg. Check-into the Hotel Turenne for 2 nights. Free time in Colmar to discover this typical Alsatian town which has been extraordinarily well preserved. The Unterlinden Museum is a must. Afterwards, talk a walk around the town to admire the Maison Pfister with its frescos and stroll around the charmimg “Little Venice,” the former tanners’district. Dinner au Fer Rouge, 1-star Michelin.
After breakfast, departure for Lapoutroie & a visit of a Caves Haxaire, a Munster cheese production. Lunch at Restaurant Haut Ribeaupierre & wine tasting at Trimbach in Ribeauville. Evening at leisure.
After breakfast, departure for Reims, one of France’s most historic cities. It owes its fame to its cathedral, the site of the coronation of France’s Kings & the world famous Champagne vineyards.
In route, visit of the Crystal Museum & shops of the world famous Baccarat, followed by a picnic lunch. Upon arrival in Reims, check-into the Hotel de la Paix for 2 nights. Dinner at Restaurant Le Millenaire.
After breakfast, discover the beauty of the Champagne region. Visit of Champagne Mumm to see the vat room, cellars & production facilities, a tasting of various Mumm Champagne and a sumptuous champagne & food paring luncheon at the Moulin de Verzenay overlooking their vineyards. Afternoon visit of the Cathedral of Reims. Evening at leisure.
After breakfast, departure for Paris. In route visit of Fromagerie Rouzaire, a production of Brie de Meaux & de Melun in Tournan-en-Brie. Lunch at the Brasserie du Theatre in Versailles. Afternoon, visit of Maison Grand Marnier in Neauphle-le-Chateau. Check-into the Park Hotel Orleans Palace for 3 nights. Evening at leisure with orientation & Paris by Night with a boat ride on the famous
“Bateaux-Mouches.”
After breakfast, visit of the Potager du Roi, the original garden of Louis XIV & the Chateau of Versailles. The Palace of Versailles was originally built in the 16th century as a simple hunting lodge for Louis XIII. It was expanded to the opulent palace that housed the reigning kings through Louis-Philippe. Afternoon, visits of Claude Monet’s Home & Gardens in Giverny where the impressionist painted worked until his death at the age of 86 with a picnic lunch and Les Ducks de la Mare Hermier, a production of foie gras. Dinner at the Chateau de Brecourt, a fine example of Louis XIII brick & stone chateau. Return to Paris.
Entire day at leisure for sightseeing, shopping, museums & to discover Paris, the “City of Light.”
After breakfast, departure for Charles de Gaulle Airport for return flight to U.S.
